I NEVER saw myself in healthcare.

My name is Nina, and I have ALWAYS been a creative person. However, I come from a family of manual laborers and healthcare professionals. We have healthcare professionals in spades, from nurses to physician assistants, with a few doctors mixed in there. When I was young, many of them encouraged me to consider medicine. As great as it sounded, I rejected the idea. I knew I was a creative at heart.

Fast forward to the future, and I was approaching a decade of marketing and communications work. I had a great resume, but I didn't feel I like had found my place in the industry. I was craving job stability, excellent compensation, creative challenges, and something to get excited about every day. After taking a job leading marketing at a neurological institute in Memphis, TN, I found everything I was looking for and more. As it turns out, my family was right! I've found amazing colleagues, exciting challenges, and rewarding projects in the industry I readily rejected...healthcare. The pay ain't so bad either!

After spending so much time working without a niche that fits my skills, I see all the benefits of finding your groove. Now, I'm ready to share what I've learned. As the head of marketing for Semmes Murphey Clinic, I have worked with three hospitals and over 70 neurosurgeons, neurologists, physiatrists, and physical therapists to discover how to offer quality marketing, design, and communications services. In my role, I have also hired and managed projects with everyone, from large digital agencies to solo freelancers. Along the way, I noticed a gap in the market for creatives with a laser focus on the healthcare niche. These are the kind of creatives my peers and I would gladly hire and, more importantly, pay top dollar for. Now I want to share my knowledge with others looking to get the most out of their career, business, or degree by focusing on skills to thrive in healthcare.
